Moscow to take measures soon if Lithuanian transit problem remains
MOSCOW, Jul 8 (PRIME) -- Moscow will take measures against Lithuania and the E.U. if the problem with transit of goods to the Kaliningrad Region is not solved soon, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Friday.
“We will not wait forever. Once again, we are issuing a warning that if the situation does not stabilize very soon, Russia will take tough measures against Lithuania and the E.U., and their preparation has been finished. The problem’s solution has been dragging on for too long,” the statement read.
Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in the statement that the E.U. and Lithuania had been assuring Moscow that the issue should be solved soon.
In June, the Lithuanian railways notified the Kaliningrad railways about termination of transit of some goods, sanctioned by the E.U., since June 18. Transit of oil products to the Kaliningrad Region was to continue until August 10.
